Uppingham Town CC are pleased to announce that following the purchase of their new ground off Leicester Road in Uppingham Steven Pasks specialist sports ground laying team have now laid both the junior & senior squares with ongar loam (28% clay). Forty tons were delivered to the site each day & the squares were laid in 3x33mm compacted layers, amounting to a total depth of 4inches. The squares have been laser leveled & will be billiard table level. There will be no difference in quality between the junior & senior squares. Each square has now been seeded & the outfield has been de-stoned & seeded.
The work has now been completed & the current 'field' is starting to look like a top-class sports field. Although we don't normally want any rain during the summer, we now need some as soon as possible to help the grass seed to germinate.
If all goes to plan the first cricket will be played at the new venue in the summer of 2010.
Phase two of the project has now commenced with planning permission & funding being sought for a new pavillion which will house umpire, scorer and changing facilities for 4 teams - absolutely essential as the ground will have two squares / grounds. In addition there will be a club room, bar, cellar and kitchen facilities.
This page will be updated with progress on the new ground and information relating to the club in the 2009 season.
